Use of cork in sporting goods
Cork is an environmentally friendly and renewable material derived from the bark of the cork oak tree. Cork is a lightweight, water resistant, fire retardant, sound insulating and resilient material. It has very good insulation and antistatic properties.
It is used in a wide variety of industries because of its versatility and its heat insulation and anti-static properties. Cork is mixed with different types of rubber to create and industrial grade cork with heat and abrasion resistance.
Many sports equipment are also made from cork materials, such as shuttlecocks, cricket, baseball and billiard cues. They are even used in yoga mats, massage balls, exercise boards, whistles and tennis rackets.
